    Before he joined Moorfields, David was director of strategic development at UCLH, where he led the planning and development of our two new hospitals – the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals and the Grafton Way Building for surgery and cancer. David has also held senior operational leadership roles at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust. David continues to present on a number of academic and training courses based on clinical leadership and management development. He has contributed to a number of publications and journals with clinical and non-clinical colleagues and personal development is a key area of interest and was a Fellow at The Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) in Boston, USA. He is also a trustee of a number of charities.     Professor Karl Peggs, director of research Professor Karl Peggs was appointed to the Board in August 2024 as the director of research and director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) UCLH Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Johanna Moss, director of strategy Johanna Moss was appointed to the Board on 7 January 2025 as the director of strategy. Prior to this Jo was the chief strategy and transformation officer for the North East London Integrated Care Board and she also held the role of director of strategy and partnerships at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for seven years, where she was the lead for their major capital project to build a new hospital and research centre in Camden.

  • Professor Geoff Bellingan

    Medical director, surgery and cancer board

    He trained as a chest physician and then in intensive care in which he has been a consultant at UCLH since 1997. He was appointed as a professor in intensive care medicine at UCL in 2015. As medical director for surgery and cancer, Geoff has a particular interest in cancer care across North and East London and West Essex, working closely with London Cancer, Macmillan and a number of other major partners. This led to the successful UCLH Cancer Collaborative application and the award of the national Cancer Vanguard in partnership with Greater Manchester Cancer Vanguard Innovation and Royal Marsden Partners. Geoff is also the senior responsible officer for the development which incorporates one of the UK’s first two NHS Proton Beam Therapy units, and a short stay surgical centre. Was this page helpful?   • Tim Hodgson

    Medical Director of the Specialist Hospitals Board

    Tim is dually qualified in medicine and dentistry. He has been a member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and a fellow in Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England since 1998. He was appointed specialist registrar in Oral Medicine at the Eastman in 1999 and subsequently spent further periods in Malawi, Africa studying HHV8 and CMV transmission. He became a consultant in Oral Medicine in 2003. He has an active research profile with 90 citations in peer reviewed journals. He was awarded an honorary FGDP(UK) ad eundem in March 2008 in recognition of developing Structured Clinical Reasoning for the new MJDF examination an innovative assessment tool of applied understanding in dentistry.     He graduated from the NHS graduate training scheme in 2006 and held senior finance positions across a number of organisations within North Central London prior to joining UCLH. Tim held the finance lead role for the North London Partners Integrated Care System for a number of years prior to the establishment of the Integrated Care Board and continues to take a strong interest in system leadership and partnership working. Tim has also been a non-executive director on the Board of a public-private pathology partnership, providing pathology services to NHS and private hospitals.     He was Pro-Provost (Health) and Dean of the Faculty of Population Health until 2025, and served as director of the UCL Institute for Global Health between April 2016 until July 2021. He was head of TB at Public Health England. Prior to his appointment at UCL, he was Professor in Health Protection at the Norwich Medical School. He qualified in medicine in 1992 and initially trained in general medicine before specialising in public health medicine.
