Chair
Marie Burnham
Chair
Marie brings over 35 years of leadership experience from across the NHS and charitable sectors, including NHS executive and non-executive roles with responsibility for performance and governance. Before joining our trust, she served as Chair of South West Yorkshire Partnership Teaching NHS Foundation Trust and previously led one of the country’s largest joint clinical commissioning groups. Since starting her early career as a registered nurse, she has also held several NHS chief executive roles and has extensive expertise in integrated health and social care, having been Chair of the Lancashire Place Based Partnership Committee and committee chair for NICE. Marie also volunteers as Chair of the Pennine Multi Academy Trust, a position she has held since 2017.

Alison joins the Trust from Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, where she was deputy chief executive since 2022. Prior to this Alison was managing director at the Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) working within the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care System. She has also worked across acute and community services, with over 15 years experience working across the healthcare sector, this appointment being her fifth Board role.
Beverley has worked as a chief operating officer, chief nurse and deputy chief executive in a number of organisations and is delighted to be back ‘home’ where she first trained as a nurse in 1985. Having worked as a mental health nurse for over 38 years, Beverley has a held a range of clinical leadership roles including in nurse led eating disorder care, in acute inpatient care and in forensic mental health.
Beverley is committed to delivering consistently high quality care to every person, every day and to do so supports the development of nursing practice and nurse leadership.
Hannah Crawford
Executive Director of Therapies
She currently holds a range of honorary positions including being a professional advisor for the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists, an Honorary Lecturer at Teesside University and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of York. Hannah has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh, which investigated the lived experience of family carers of adults with profound and multiple disabilities and dysphagia.
Kathryn Ellis
Interim Executive Director of Transformation and Strategy
Kathryn started in the NHS as a graduate management trainee. She has extensive senior leadership experience in health, social care and the voluntary sector, having worked across acute, general practice, community and mental health services.
Kathryn’s held several executive director positions in both commissioning and provider organisations, working in operational and strategic roles leading transformation and improvement. Her previous roles have included leadership of organisational and system improvement, transformational change across service pathways, and design and delivery of new models of care. She is a qualified organisational consultant and coach, passionate about patient, staff and community involvement, and integrated partnership working.
Her interim role, executive director of transformation and strategy, leads on strategy, planning, and transformation for our Trust.
Kedar Kale
Executive Medical Director
Kedar is a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry and has over 25 years’ experience in the field.
He trained in Mumbai, India and worked there as a Consultant Psychiatrist before moving to England. He retrained in Norwich and later Cambridge (where he also obtained his MPhil), before moving to the North East working within Cumbria Northumberland Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW) for nearly 15 years as a Consultant Psychiatrist. He also held various leadership roles most recently as Group Medical Director.
His clinical practice has been within a community mental health setting working with service users having long term conditions, providing holistic care and focusing on recovery.
He is passionate about continuous service improvement, coproduced with our service users and carers. He has led several improvement programmes over the years which brought significant change in practice and benefitted service users and staff.
He has enthusiastically trained postgraduate doctors for several years and is keen to ensure our Trust provides them a high quality training experience, and welcomes them as a place to work.
Liz Romaniak
Executive Director of Finance, Estates and Facilities
Our Trust is run by a Trust board. It’s made up of executive and non-executive directors and led by a non-executive chair.
Our Trust board meets in public.
Our Board of Directors provides overall leadership and vision to our Trust. It is ultimately and collectively responsible for all aspects of performance, including clinical and service quality, financial performance and governance.
Sarah Dexter-Smith
Executive Director for People and Culture
Sarah is a consultant clinical psychologist who has worked in the NHS for over 25 years alongside roles in social care and education. She was appointed in February 2021 and was previously director of therapies. She brings a broad range of applied psychology experience having worked on regional and national bodies.
Catherine has over 30 years of experience working in the health and social care sector supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic people. She has worked for local authorities, the NHS and third sector organisations across the North East and Yorkshire – moving from direct support roles through a range of management and business development roles. Prior to joining TEWV, Catherine was Chief Executive at a third sector provider of support to adults with learning disabilities in West Yorkshire.
Catherine also has extensive lived experience as a carer for people with complex needs. This combination of professional and personal experience is the driver for her continued passion for developing support to be the best it can be for everyone who needs it.
Catherine has a special interest in end of life and palliative care for people with learning disabilities and led a national award-winning project. She sits on the steering group of the British Institute of Learning Disabilities Growing older with Learning Disabilities Group and is also a member of the special advisory group for the Palliative Care Network for People with Learning Disabilities.
David Butcher
Associate Non-Executive Director
David is a chartered accountant and has held various financial management positions across both private and public sectors. He also brings strategic oversight and governance experience from multi-stakeholder public sector environments across multiple sectors.
He has recently retired from his role as Director of Finance and University Secretary at Leeds Trinity University, with responsibilities including strategic and operational financial management, strategic business planning and leading the risk management processes.
Edward Gorringe
Associate Non-Executive Director
Edward has many years of experience in the voluntary sector; he is currently a trustee of a national mental health charity and was previously the chief executive of a mental health charity delivering services across Northern Ireland. His interest in mental health in part derives from his personal and family experience and he is committed to ensuring that the voice of the service user and carer is heard. Edward is a qualified accountant and has held a number of senior finance and management positions across the public and voluntary sectors; he is currently the Chief Executive of a hospice in the North East.
John Maddison
Non-Executive Director, Chair of Audit and Risk Committee
John joined the Trust as an Associate Non-Executive Director on 1 January 2020 as part of the Trust’s succession planning arrangements. He retired in June 2019 after working in the NHS for 37 years. He studied Economics and Accountancy at Loughborough University and joined the NHS as a graduate trainee accountant in Yorkshire. The majority of John’s career was based in the North East working in Finance, primarily in the acute sector and senior positions at the strategic tier including NHS England. He was Director of Finance and Informatics at an acute FT in the North East and a large teaching hospital in the North Midlands prior to joining Gateshead Health FT in 2014 as Group Director of Finance and Informatics and latterly as Deputy Chief Executive and Acting Chief Executive for the final year prior to retirement.
Jules Preston
Non-Executive Director, Senior Independent Director
Jules has extensive experience in the NHS, having served as the inaugural Chairman of the Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest mental health and learning disability Trusts in the country. During his period of chairmanship, the trust successfully came together having been three separate organisations and it achieved Foundation Trust status in 2009/10. In 2012 Jules began a new Chairman’s post at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
Jules had previously been a Non-Executive Director of other NHS organisations, including the former Sunderland Health Authority (1996-2000) and the then Northumberland, Tyne and Wear Strategic Health Authority (2000-2006).
Jules has also held senior positions with the Manpower Services Commission (Department of Employment) and was Chief Executive of Sunderland City Training and Enterprise Council and Business Link. Following that he was, for more than two years, part-time Chief Executive of the National Glass Centre in Sunderland.
He was until 2012 an assessor, both in the UK and internationally, of organisations that were working to achieve ‘Investor in People’ status and received an MBE in 1999 for services to training, particularly for those with special needs.
Niniola Adetuberu
Non-Executive Director
Nini qualified as a medical doctor 20 years ago from Imperial College and carried out core training in psychiatry in Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW). Nini brings experience from her career working within health and social care clinically and in commissioning mental health services across a local authority and primary care trust. She has worked at a national level on the regulation of mental health providers, as deputy director of policy at the Care Quality Commisison and on developing policy reforms around the Mental Health Bill at the Department of Health and Social Care.
Nini has a passion for ensuring all people get fair access to health services and experience safe care with high-quality outcomes.
Principal skills and expertise : Senior healthcare leader with expertise in board governance, clinical leadership, commissioning, policy development and regulation in the health sector.
Philomena Corrigan
Non-Executive Director
Philomena joined the trust in July 2026, bringing leadership experience spanning clinical practice, healthcare commissioning, regulation and governance. Beginning her career as a Registered Nurse, she progressed to Director of Nursing roles in acute and community services.
She was an assessor for CQC (Care Quality Commission) and worked with the National Institute for Clinical Effectiveness developing national guidelines and standards. She later served as Chief Executive for Leeds West CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) during which time she led three CCGs into one organisation.
Following retirement from executive leadership in 2019, she continued to contribute to healthcare through several non-executive and advisory roles. She served as a Trustee and Chair of St Gemma’s Hospice, Non-Executive Director at Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust, Chair of Thank You Healthcare Staff, and Strategic Advisor for Liaison with a focus on mental health.
Roberta Barker
Non-Executive Director, Chair of People, Culture and Diversity Committee
Roberta is a UK and Ireland HR and OD Director for Teva Pharmaceuticals, a global $17bn business, where she has created a comprehensive people strategy, developed a learning management system and established a technology-led, senior business partner model.
Roberta began her main career in HR with sporting retailing giant Nike where she was Head of Learning & Development EMEA. From there, she moved on to Daichii Sankyo EMEA as Director of People & Performance before taking on responsibility for the Director of People & OD role for the Business Services Authority, covering multiple divisions of services for the NHS.
Roberta has held various permanent and interim leadership positions within the Health Service including Trust Director of Workforce People and OD at Medway NHS Foundation, Director of Workforce & OD at Yorkshire Ambulance Trust, Director of People and OD at NHS Digital and Director of HR and OD at Royal Surrey County Hospital.
