Dr Annette Doherty
Chair
Dr Annette Doherty OBE FRSC trained as a chemist at Imperial College London.
She has 35 years of international experience working in the pharmaceutical sector, including at Warner-Lambert, Pfizer and most recently GSK where she was Senior Vice President, Global Head of Product Development and Clinical Supply.
She has been directly involved in the research, development and launch of over 30 new medicines in respiratory, infectious diseases, cancer, and inflammatory conditions.
Dr Doherty was appointed Chair of Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in May 2024.
She was previously Chair of East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and was a non-executive director (NED) at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
She is currently President of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a charity focussing on education, research and policy to advance the chemical sciences.
Dr Doherty is also a Member of the Tonbridge Grammar School Academy Trust and was previously a trustee at St John Ambulance. She is also a Council Member of Innovate UK, which is a part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
In 2009, she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to the pharmaceutical sector.
As the Trust’s “Accountable Officer”, Miles Scott is responsible for the overall development and performance of the Trust.
Miles joined Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2018 and has over three decades of NHS leadership experience encompassing acute, community and mental health services.
Alongside his Trust responsibilities, Miles holds national and regional leaderships roles including National Delivery Advisor for NHS England’s Urgent and Emergency Care programme.
He is also Co-Chair of the NHS England South East Learning and Improvement Network.
Miles is actively involved in the Kent and Medway Integrated Care System, chairing key committees including the Kent and Medway Cancer Alliance, the Kent and Medway Acute Transformation Programme, and the West Kent Health and Care Partnership.
He has previously chaired regional committees in London and Yorkshire, including the South London Academic Health Sciences Network and the West Yorkshire Clinical Research Network.
Before joining the Trust, Miles was Improvement Director at NHS Improvement and previously served as Chief Executive at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust.
Miles is married to Abbie and has two children. He lives in south west London with his family.
Dr Sara Mumford is a consultant microbiologist and Director of Infection Prevention and Control. She became the Trust’s Chief Medical Officer in January 2024.
She attends the Trust Board and a number of subcommittees and also leads the infection prevention strategy.
Sara was awarded Senior Fellowship of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management in July 2023.
Sara joined the Trust in 2007, and has previously been the Trust’s Deputy Medical Director.
She has also worked as a consultant microbiologist at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust and as a consultant in communicable disease control (CCDC) at Kent Health Protection Unit.
Helen Palmer
Chief People Officer
Helen Palmer joined the Trust in September 2024.
She has over 25 years’ experience of leading people and organisational development departments at large multinational organisations, beginning her career in the staffing industry.
She was previously the Chief People Officer at the World Resources Institute and before that spent 10 years at Kelly Services holding a variety of people and organisational development posts, including the VP of International HR and Global Lead of Employee Experience.
Before joining Kelly Services, Helen spent 13 years at Reed, progressing her career through the learning and development, people partner and talent acquisition fields.
Helen is passionate about employee engagement and experiences, creating inclusive, compassionate and high-performing cultures where people can thrive.
She is motivated to create high performing teams that support organisations to be their best, and make a difference in people’s lives.
Helen lives in Kent with her husband and daughter.
Jo Haworth
Chief Nurse
Jo Haworth joined the Trust Board in August 2021.
She has been qualified as a Registered General Nurse for over 20 years and initially specialised in emergency nursing at The Royal London Hospital where she worked for over 15 years.
Jo has since held a number of senior nursing leadership positions in a range of clinical services, including community and mental health services across London.
Before joining MTW she was Deputy Chief Nurse at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Jo has a particular interest in the connection between mental and physical health and is passionate about improving this for patients.

Mrs Ritchie Chalmers
Chief Transformation Officer
Mrs Ritchie Chalmers joined the trust as a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon in 2013.
She was appointed as the trust's Chief Transformation Officer in 2025 and is part of the Executive team and the Board.
As Chief Transformation Officer Ritchie leads the Improvement and Delivery team and continuous improvement approach through the 'Exceptional people, outstanding care' programme.
Ritchie has previously worked with teams to improve cancer performance as the trust Lead Cancer Clinician and to establish the West Kent Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) as Chief of Service for the Core Clinical Services Division.
She has experience of working at a system level across Kent & Medway as the Deputy Chief Medical Officer at the ICB and as the Medical Director of the Kent & Medway Cancer Alliance.
Rachel Jones
Director of Strategy, Planning and Partnerships
Rachel Jones has over 30 years' NHS experience which started when she qualified as a diagnostic radiographer.
For the next 10 years she worked in this field in acute hospitals in Birmingham, Manchester and Preston, latterly specialising in interventional radiology.
She moved to Kent 19 years ago and broadened her experience working in a Strategic Health Authority, focusing on service improvement, and two years focusing on contracts and performance management.
From 2011 to 2014 she was the Divisional Director for Surgical Services at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust before moving to be the Director of Strategy and Business Development until 2017.
From there she spent a short time in a Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) before moving to the Sustainability and Transformation Partnership (STP) to lead strategic change programmes across Kent and Medway, including stroke, vascular and east Kent transformation.
During her time there she also led on children and young people, learning disability and autism, and cancer.
In April 2020 she became the Executive Director for Strategy and Population Health for Kent and Medway CCG and moved to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in May 2022.
Sarah Davis
Chief Operating Officer
Sarah Davis was appointed Chief Operating Officer in September 2024, having previously been Deputy Chief Operating Officer.
Sarah started her career as a Registered Nurse and has 36 years' NHS experience working in a variety of senior nursing and operational roles.
Before joining MTW in 2006, Sarah worked in a clinical role undertaking a project for the Department of Health at Kettering NHS Trust.
In a long career at MTW, Sarah has led multidisciplinary teams in the delivery of strategic projects including the Kent and Medway Orthopaedic Centre and Fordcombe Hospital, as well as service improvement projects, and achievement of key national performance targets.
Steve Orpin
Deputy Chief Executive
Steve Orpin is Deputy Chief Executive and, as Chief Finance Officer, is also responsible for providing information and advice relating to all financial management issues.
Steve joined the trust in April 2014 as Director of Finance from Medway NHS Foundation Trust, where he had been Deputy Director of Finance, including a 12-month spell as Director of Finance.
Steve has held various positions in the Finance function in NHS organisations across London and the south east, in an NHS career spanning over 30 years.
He is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants and holds an MBA. In addition to his role on the Board, Steve attends several Board sub-committees.
Alex joined the Trust Board in March 2023. He is a non-executive director of GCP Infrastructure Investments Limited, Plenary Europe, West Kent Housing Association and Rockdale Housing Association.
He chairs the People and Organisational Development Committee.
Before embarking on a portfolio/non-executive career, Alex spent more than 25 years as a lawyer, banker and investor.
His last executive role was at John Laing, the international infrastructure and energy investor, where he was Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive and Senior Managing Director.
Alex was born in Malaysia, was educated and worked in Singapore, and has worked in the City and lived in Kent for over 19 years.
David Morgan
Non-Executive Director
David is a chartered accountant, having qualified with KPMG, and chairs the Trust’s Audit and Governance and Charitable Funds committees.
Away from work David volunteers as a mentor to staff and students at Imperial College, London who are looking to start their own businesses, having previously chaired the advisory board of the Department of Chemistry at Imperial.
David has lived in Kent for over twenty years and is married with three sons.
Lisa Thompson
Associate Non-Executive Director
Lisa Thompson joined the Trust Board in September 2025, bringing with her over 30 years of experience in clinical and leadership roles across adult and children’s services, including leadership of allied health professionals.
She is a registered speech and language therapist and has a Master’s in Healthcare Management. She continues to work clinically on a part time basis.
Before joining the Board, Lisa served as Director of Children and Young People’s Services at Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, where she provided strategic leadership for service delivery across three London boroughs, supporting physical health, public health, and child and adolescent mental health services.
She has worked with service users and colleagues across the NHS, local authorities, and voluntary organisations leading initiatives resulting in improved health and social care outcomes.
She is a member of the European Cooperation in Science and Technology Action Group focusing on the language abilities needed by children and adolescents to participate in justice proceedings effectively.
Liz Woolman
Associate Non-Executive Director
Liz Woolman has a degree in Management Studies and an MBA, she is a qualified executive coach and marketeer.
Liz is currently a non-executive director for the Pension Protection Fund, Local Pensions Partnership Administration and Anglo Saxons Friendly Society, where she is the Senior Independent Director.
She is also a director and the founder of Reconnect Business Coaching Ltd and a trustee of Friends of High Weald Churches, a charity.
Liz has over 25 years’ experience in a FTSE 100 organisation in the global technology sector.
During her executive career Liz managed an extensive technology portfolio for BT Group leading a successful digital transformation, launching innovative new products and services, increasing efficiency and implementing new systems and technology platforms.
She also held senior positions in a range of functions including human resources, sales, marketing, strategy and commercial product management.
Neil Griffiths
Deputy Chair
Neil Griffiths joined the Board as an associate non-executive director in June 2018 and was appointed as a substantive non-executive director on 14 February 2019. He became Deputy Chair in 2023.
Neil is a career healthcare executive and Board leader with over 25 years' public and private sector experience.
His career has included strategic, operational, change management and commercial roles in and around hospitals in the UK.
He was previously a Board member and Deputy Chief Executive at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and his Board experience includes The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and East Kent Hospitals.
Neil’s other career experience includes helping lead the team and development of the McKinsey Hospital Institute (MHI) in the UK. This was part of a global initiative for McKinsey & Company to develop analytical tools and performance improvement support for hospitals.
Neil is currently Managing Director of TeleTracking Technologies in the UK, a global leader in the provision of services and technology, supporting healthcare organisations improve productivity and patient flow.
Neil has been a local resident for 12 years, is married with two children and lives in Tunbridge Wells.
Professor John Hammond
Associate Non-Executive Director
John Hammond is Professor of Interprofessional Practice at Canterbury Christ Church University’s School of Allied and Public Health Professions and joined the Trust Board in January 2025.
John has a wealth of academic, clinical and research experience.
In his clinical career he specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and pain, and his academic focus includes interprofessional working and social justice.
His research interests also include issues of social justice including gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability and allyship.
John is co-chair of the UK National Association of Educators in Practice and an associate editor of the Physiotherapy journal.
Vivek Srivastava
Non-Executive Director
Dr Vivek Srivastava joined as a non-executive director in November 2025.
He is a consultant in acute medicine at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospital and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He contributes to improving physical and mental health services, mental health education and preventing hospital re-admissions.
He is founding chair of Pan-London Acute Medicine Network (PLAN), a clinical community to improve acute care in the region.
Dr Srivastava worked for the National Confidential Enquiry into Patient Outcomes and Death (NCEPOD) from 2013-2023, where he contributed to national reports on the quality of care of sepsis, pulmonary embolism, peri-operative diabetes care, healthcare in prisons and mental and physical healthcare in acute and mental health hospitals.
He is Director of Quality for MBBS at King’s College London School of Medicine and is closely involved with the new medical school campus in Portsmouth.
He has been a clinical NED at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust for the past five years and chairs the Quality and Performance Committee.
Wayne Wright
Non-Executive Director
Wayne joined the Trust Board in January 2022.
He has worked in some of the most celebrated corporate entities as well as fast-growing, medium-sized businesses at senior and board levels.
His experience is in the building of businesses from the bottom up with a clear understanding of the strategic elements essential in driving successful growth. With a scientist background he is named on nine patents.
Wayne has investments in healthcare businesses in the UK and US, and for the last 20 years has led [W]sq solutions, a small boutique entrepreneur coaching organisation that works with fast-growing businesses in accelerating growth and profitability.
His corporate and turnaround experience for venture capitalists and the serving of those high growth businesses have created learning and principles that have been packaged into his book, The Ten Commandments of Business Growth and discussed in depth through his new breakthrough online course for business leaders and their executive teams ‘Business Growth, Strategy and Execution Course’.
Wayne is active in the Maidstone community where he has lived for over 20 years with his wife and grown up family. He currently owns Maidstone Warriors Basketball Club, the largest youth basketball club in the Kent region and active in his local church, The Vine, which has a strong reputation in the Maidstone community and schools for supporting those in financial and physical need.
