    Sarah Jones

    Chair

    Sarah was appointed to the Chair role at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust on 1 February 2026 and from 1 March 2026 as Interim Chair in Common with Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust, having previously been Chair at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Sarah continues to be the substantive Chair with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, albeit she has stepped away from her day-to-day involvement with that Trust. Before joining Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Sarah was previously Chair at Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust. Under her leadership in Sheffield, the Trust grew both in scale and the services it offers. She had overseen significant investment including a new hospital development and the installation of a helipad. Sarah is passionate about equality, diversity and inclusion and while at Sheffield supported the setup of the colleague network groups. She also has experience of working within the integrated care system. While in South Yorkshire she chaired the Mental Health, Learning Disability and Autism Provider Collaborative, as well as being a member of the Acute Federation and Sheffield Health and Care Partnership. Sarah is the Green Champion for our Trust and chair’s the Appointments and Remuneration Committee and Charitable Funds Committee and is also a member of the Trust’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee. The Chair of a Trust Board is a non-executive appointment, accountable to the Secretary of State for Health for giving leadership to the Board and ensuring that it fulfils its full responsibilities. The Chair is responsible for ensuring: · delivery of the strategy and ensure value for money. · supervising the chief executive for delivering the strategy and performance. · responsible for assuring that risks to the Trust and the public are managed and mitigated effectively. · providing efficient and effective healthcare. · promoting the highest standards of ethics, integrity, probity, and corporate governance throughout the organisation and particularly on the board to meet legal and contractual obligations. In their role as an ambassador, leading in developing relationships and partnership working, the chair is responsible for: · representing the organisation externally, developing and facilitating strong partnerships, and promoting collaborative, whole system working through engagement with key partners across public, private, and voluntary sectors, patients and the public, staff etc. The Chair works with the Chief Executive to ensure that the Board maintains its capacity and is continually developed in order to ensure it has ‘balance, completeness and appropriateness’ in the context of a changing NHS and wider healthcare environment. In support of these responsibilities a key part of the Chair role is a focus on the collaboration agenda, system leadership and partnership working.

    Foluke Ajayi

    Chief Executive Officer

    ‘Foluke was appointed in April 2022 and joined the Trust from the NHS England and NHS Improvement where she was Director of Strategic Transformation in the Humber Coast & Vale Health and Care Partnership. Prior to this, she worked as Chief Operating Officer at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS FT for five years. ‘Foluke’s early career was as a Clinical Scientist in Audiology specialising in paediatrics and cochlear implants, following which she held senior roles in the Department of Health and NHS Employers. She has also held senior operational management roles at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust initially as Directorate Manager, after which she led their Cancer Centre as General Manager. ‘Foluke was appointed as Vice Chair of the NHS Confederation in February 2025.

  • Andy Laverick

    Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO)

    Andy joined Airedale NHS Foundation Trust in July 2026 as Chief Digital Information Officer and Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO). Andy has over 20 years’ experience in senior digital leadership within the NHS, having served as Chief Information Officer and in other executive digital leadership roles across several NHS organisations. With earlier experience in the private sector, he has led large-scale digital transformation programmes spanning electronic patient records, cyber resilience, digital infrastructure and information governance. He is passionate about using technology and innovation to improve patient care, support staff and enable modern, sustainable healthcare services.

  • Dr Andrew Loughney

    Chief Medical Officer

    Dr Andrew Loughney trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the North East of England and practiced there as a Consultant Obstetrician for seventeen years. He moved to Liverpool Women’s Hospital in 2016 where he was Medical Director and Deputy CEO, in addition to spending time as Interim Medical Director at the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals. Most recently he was Medical Director at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust. Andrew has a cellular and molecular biology PhD and maintains an interest in academic medicine to complement his focus on medical safety and effectiveness.

    Joint Chief People Officer (Airedale NHS Foundation Trust & Bradford District Care Trust)

    Joanne has over 20 years’ experience of working in Human Resources and Organisational Development, in both the private and public sector. Joanne’s previous roles include: Deputy Director of Workforce and Organisational Development; Interim Executive Director of Workforce and Organisational Development; with other HR and Operational management roles across the NHS, service sector and retail. Key skills include the development of people centred practices, health and wellbeing initiatives, workforce planning and strategic Human Resources management.

  • Lianne Robinson

    Chief Nurse, Executive Director for Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals

    Lianne is a trustee at East Lancashire Hospice BSc (Hons) Professional Practice, Specialist Practice in Accident and Emergency Post Graduate Diploma Organisational Change Management Post Graduate Diploma Healthcare Leadership Lianne has worked for the NHS for over 25 years, starting her career as a Staff Nurse in the A&E department at Royal Blackburn Infirmary. She spent 16 years working at East Lancashire Hospitals gaining experience in Matron roles within Medicine, Surgery, Trauma and Orthopaedics and ED all with a constant focus on patient and staff experience and delivering the best quality of care. After spending two years at The Walton Centre for Neurology where she was the lead Nurse for Neurology, Lianne took up her position at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust as Divisional Nurse Director for the Elective Care Division, before then spending two years as a Divisional Director of Operations. Lianne moved into the Deputy Chief Nurse post at Bolton in 2021, where she led on Safeguarding, Safe Staffing and workforce development. With a constant drive and passion for developing the workforce, nurturing and supporting professional leaders and ensuring safe, quality and high standards of care, Lianne works with her professional leadership teams to ensure patients remain at the heart of all we do.

  • Mike Savage

    Executive Director of Finance

    Mike joined the Trust in October 2022 from Manchester Royal Infirmary, part of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where he had been Director of Finance since January 2020. Prior to this he was Director of Operational Finance at The Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He has previously worked for a NHS Commissioning Support Unit in Yorkshire, as Chief Finance Officer and then as Customer Delivery Director. His early career was spent at PwC in the Audit and Insolvency divisions where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant; and JP Morgan Chase in London and in New York, then taking on a number of Finance Director roles before starting his career in the NHS. Mike has also completed a number of NHS leadership development programmes including the 2018 cohort of the Aspiring Finance Leaders National Talent Pool, Top Leaders, and City University London CASS Business School NHS Strategic Financial Leadership.

  • Stuart Shaw

    Executive Director of Strategy, Planning and Partnerships

    Stuart was appointed as Director of Strategy, Planning and Partnerships in October 2018, having previously worked for 10 years at the Trust as the Head of Planning and Performance focused on Annual Planning, regulatory performance and contract negotiation and management. In his current role Stuart has led the development of the current Trust Strategy 2020 to 2025, Annual Plans and was an integral member of the team that progressed the Trust gaining a place on the national New Hospital Programme. He also covered as Acting Chief Operating Officer for a short period between January and April 2022. Before joining the Trust, Stuart worked at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, with a responsibility for establishing a Performance Management Unit that supported Local Delivery Plans.

  • Tom Strickland

    Chief Operating Officer

    Tom was appointed as Chief Operating Officer on 17 August 2026. Tom has senior strategic and operational leadership experience across the NHS and was previously Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, where he led major programmes of operational delivery and service improvement across urgent, emergency and planned care. He has held operational and transformation roles in a number of NHS organisations, including Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Earlier in his career, Tom joined the Civil Service Fast Stream, working in HM Treasury and the Department of Health. He is also a local resident, living in Ilkley with his wife and two young children.

  • Andrew Merrick

    Independent Non-Executive Director

    Andrew has experience in a range of different sectors having started his career with HSBC. Andrew was the Chief Finance Officer at Irwin Mitchell, Solicitors, a national full service law firm, having formerly worked as Group Finance Director at Dart Group plc (owners of Jet2.com) and as Director of Finance at Bradford & Bingley plc. He has also sat on the Board of Incommunities, a Bradford-based social housing provider, where he chaired the Audit Committee. In June 2019, having retired from full-time roles, he joined the Board of Yorkshire Water, a position he still holds, and where he is Chair of the Audit Committee. Andrew is also Senior Independent Director, Vice Chair and Chair of the Audit Committee at Market Harborough Building Society.

  • Carl Chambers

    Audit and Risk Committee (Chair), Quality and Safety Committee

    Carl is a qualified Barrister and Chartered Accountant who practised in both professions before moving into the financial sector. He worked in private equity and investment banking for 11 years and then moved into industry as CFO of a Yorkshire business he helped start up. He has led over 40 acquisitions and oversaw the flotation of the business. Since leaving that business he has been in non-executive roles in both the private and public sectors, including at Leeds Teaching Hospitals where he chaired both the Audit and Finance & Performance Committees, and at the University of Bradford where he was a Council member and sat on the Finance and Investment Committees.

  • Dr Zubair Iqbal

    Independent Non-Executive Director

    Appointed on 15 June 2026, Zubair is a highly experienced GP and senior NHS clinical leader, heading towards 20 years’ experience, currently holding system level leadership roles within Greater Manchester ICB. Zubair’s career includes roles as a Primary Care Quality and Transformation Clinical Lead and Prescribing Lead within the Greater Manchester ICB, alongside long standing work as a locum and out of hours GP. Zubair has extensive experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, and has also held a board level role at Blackburn College & University Centre, providing independent oversight and assurance. Zubair also held university lecturer and clinical tutor roles, contributing to the development and assessment of future clinicians.

  • Eileen Jessop

    People Committee, Finance, Performance and Digital Committee (Chair)

    Eileen is a trained coach and mentor Eileen Jessop is a board-level Chief Digital and Information Officer with over 25 years’ experience leading large-scale digital transformation across Defence, government and the NHS. She is widely recognised for delivering complex, mission-critical programmes that modernise healthcare, strengthen cyber resilience, and unlock the power of data at national scale. As Chief Digital and Information Officer for Defence Medical Services within the Ministry of Defence, Eileen leads the global medical digital, data strategy supporting healthcare delivery to UK Armed Forces personnel. She is the Senior Responsible Owner for a Government Major Projects Portfolio (GMPP) programme, driving a £500m transformation to deliver integrated, deployable digital health capabilities across operational, maritime and fixed environments worldwide. Eileen has a strong track record of building and leading high-performing digital functions in complex environments. She established the Defence Medical Services Digital and Data capability from inception, published its first enterprise-wide digital strategy, and is leading the transformation of legacy services, including the modernisation of the Defence Medical Archive, delivering improved access, operational effectiveness and multi-million-pound savings. Prior to Defence, Eileen was Chief Information Officer at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, where she led the organisation to a largely paperless environment, delivered national digital services for Proton Beam Therapy, and established advanced data and research capabilities in partnership with industry and academia. Her earlier career includes senior leadership roles at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the Department for Work and Pensions, where she was head of enterprise cloud transformation supporting services used by over 20 million citizens. Eileen is an accredited reviewer for the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA) and a graduate of the Major Projects Leadership Academy at Oxford Saïd Business School. She holds Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and is recognised for her ability to lead in high-pressure, high risk environments where digital capability is critical to operational success.

  • Helene Ghosh

    Independent Non-Executive Director

    Helene has previously worked for BT Global as the Global HR Director for Portfolio and Digital, and Strategy, as well as the Regional HR Director for AMEA. She is a Freeman of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire Sheffield and has also been a school governor for the past 5 years and SEND lead.

  • Jyoti Mehan

    Independent Non-Executive Director

    Jyoti Mehan joined the Trust on 3 March 2025. Jyoti is the CEO of Health Care First, a large-scale general practice serving over 32,000 patients across seven sites. A former Big Four leader, she brings over 20 years of experience, shaping innovative care models and pathways. She has also advised numerous mid to large-cap private equity firms on healthcare investments and previously founded her own health and wellness start-up. In addition to her executive leadership, Jyoti provides insight and expertise to industry as a speaker and has served as a voluntary board advisor for multiple SMEs looking to scale.

  • Mark Andrews

    Senior Independent Non-Executive Director

    Appointed on 1 st June 2023, Mark has previously been responsible for project management, design, construction and FM of many new hospitals in the UK and abroad. Because of his services to apprenticeships, training and education in the construction industry, Mark was awarded an OBE in 2010. He held many senior roles including Chief Executive at NG Bailey and Managing Director at Balfour Beatty and, most recently, Laing O’Rourke. As a chartered engineer with a plethora of executive management experience in construction, engineering, contracting services, manufacturing and chemicals, Mark’s skills and experience are invaluable at a time where we look forward to building a new hospital. The Senior Independent Director is a non-executive director appointed by the Board of Directors. The Senior Independent Director may be, but does not have to be, the Deputy Chair of the Board of Directors. They will be available to members of the Board and staff if they have concerns that contact through the usual channels of Chair, Chief Executive, Director of Finance and Company Secretary has failed to resolve or where it would be inappropriate to use such channels. The Senior Independent Director also carries out the role of a Non-Executive Director. The Senior Independent Director, The Chair and Non-Executive Directors The Senior Independent Director has a key role in supporting the Chair in leading the Board of Directors and acting as a sounding board and source of advice for the Chair. The SID consults with the other Non-Executive Directors as part of the annual appraisal process for feedback on the Chair. The Senior Independent Director and The Board The SID has a vital independent role in times where the Board may not be in agreement. They will work with the Chair and other Directors to resolve significant issues.
